Plantar Warts: Causes and Symptoms

Warts can be one of the conditions that you cannot escape. It causes irritation to your skin since it targets the outer layer of the skin. Warts may be caused by one virus, the human papillomavirus (HPV), but it comes in different types and forms.

What is a Plantar Wart?

Warts can come in different types and one of them is plantar warts. These warts usually appearon the weight-bearing areas of your feet. The pressure brought by the weight of a person might cause plantar warts to grow inwards beneath the callus. This type of warts is not a serious skin condition and might disappear without any treatment at all. But there are complications when you left it for too long without any treatment. It will really change your way of running, walking or standing since it might cause muscle or joint discomfort.

Causes and Symptoms of Plantar Warts

Plantar warts may be recognized when you observe its symptoms. When you have plantar warts, you may have tenderness or pain when standing or walking. It appears to have a lesion that interrupts the normal ridges and lines in the skin of your foot. It looks like a rough, fleshy, and small lesion on the bottom of your foot usually at the base or the heel.

The common causes of Plantar Warts is the human papillomavirus (HPV) which targets the outer layer of the skin on the sole of your feet. Transmission can also cause plantar warts. This is when you are confidently walking barefoot around moist places when you have a wound or scratch on the sole of your feet.

Anyone can develop plantar warts but it mostly affects teenagers and children, people with weak immune systems, and people who have plantar warts before.

  • The lesion is bleeding, changes in color or appearance, or is already painful
  • Tried treating the warts but it became worst
  • Discomfort affects your daily activities
  • Poor sensation on the feet or have diabetes
  • Weak immune system due to immune system disorders like HIV/AIDS
  • If not sure that the lesion is a wart
