Over the last decade or so, CBD has become somewhat of a hot topic. Its popularity seems to only grow and grow as time continues to go on. Today, depending on what state you live in, you might even be able to find CBD products in gas stations and liquor stores. There’s even a good chance that you or someone you know uses CBD for wellness. But what benefits does CBD actually provide? What does the scientific community say about this topic? There are still a lot of questions to be answered.
It is worth noting before diving in that the American Food and Drug Association, or FDA, hasn’t cleared CBD to treat any conditions or symptoms except for one case. There is a prescription drug for seizures on the market that is made up of highly refined CBD. The quality of this CBD is a lot higher than anything you’d be able to find on shelves, as is the potency. In fact, there haven’t been enough studies on the effects of CBD on humans to say anything with 100% certainty. All we know for now is that the scientific research is promising as well as what CBD users have said about the product. Let’s look at some of the things that people say their CBD usage helps with.
What is CBD?
Before we delve into how CBD can help you, an introduction is in order. It’s important to be sure that you know exactly what CBD is before you decide to put it in your body. Even though it’s gained a lot of popularity over the years that doesn’t mean that everyone knows exactly what it is, so let’s gloss over that so you can move forward in confidence if you’re deciding whether or not CBD is right for you. There is a lot to know about CBD so we won’t have time to get into all of it, you could write an entire doctoral dissertation on the subject, so we’re just going to cover what you need to know for right now.
CBD is short for cannabidiol, which is its proper scientific name. It’s a cannabinoid that comes from the cannabis plant, much like THC. CBD, unlikely THC, is non-psychoactive, which means that it won’t get you high as THC does. CBD actually has many of the same properties as THC, which means that you can get a lot of the therapeutic benefits from THC by using CBD without dealing with getting high. That’s a win-win for anyone that wants to benefit from all of the positive things from cannabis without having to deal with what many people consider to be an incredibly uncomfortable experience.
CBD Helps People Relax
One of the biggest things that we hear people say about CBD is that it helps them relax. The word “relaxation” can mean a lot of different things based on context, but from what we’ve gathered most people mean a few things. Whether they’re talking about being able to keep a cool head in tense situations or that it helps them unwind while they’re getting ready for bed, it seems to be pretty unanimous among users that it has the benefit. That could potentially be good news for you if you’ve been considering trying CBD and have trouble unwinding after a long day.
Let’s say, for example, you’ve had a long day at work. Your boss has been giving you a hard time and wouldn’t lay off. Maybe you were late to work because you were having car trouble so your nerves were already shot before you clocked in. Throughout the day you were battered with customer complaints or difficult clients and you’re at your breaking point. That’s a lot of stress to handle for just one day, and the normal advice of “take a deep breath, unclench your jaw, relax your shoulders.” doesn’t do anything because your nerves are simply fried. By the time you get home, the grey cloud floating above your head simply won’t shrink. You try all of your normal things to calm you down. We’re well aware that CBD isn’t a cure-all and that there’s a good chance that it won’t work for everyone, so if you do decide to try it, it might be smart to start off buying just enough for a few doses while you’re seeing if it works for you. If it does, great. You’ve got a new tool in your toolbelt to help keep you calm. If not, that’s unfortunate but there are other things that you can try. Meditation, grounding exercises, and calming teas such as chamomile or lavender could be good places to start looking.
CBD can Help Ease Discomfort
As we age our bodies slowly break down and cause us more and more pain. It’s just one of the perks of growing up. Sometimes it’s just because our bodies grow tired of the day-to-day toil and start to get worn down, and other times it’s because of medical conditions. Many people do find some comfort by using CBD because of a lot of its therapeutic effects. CBD is known to have anti-inflammatory properties that can help ease certain types of discomfort. That could potentially mean that you could be on your feet doing the things that you love more without as much worry about the aches and pains that your body gives you in return.
If you’ve ever wanted to go play with your kids but your joints were acting up, CBD might be able to make it a little easier. Like we mentioned before, CBD might not work for anyone and definitely isn’t some sort of a wonder cure. It does have known properties that can help ease discomfort and help make movement a little easier but don’t expect anything beyond that. CBD won’t kill the pain by any stretch of the imagination, but it could potentially help make it a little easier for you to move around when your body is giving you issues.
That could mean more time you can spend with your friends or family, or even just getting through your workday with a little stamina left over for your favorite after-work activities. Regardless of why you want to feel a little more comfortable while you do things, you deserve to. If CBD doesn’t help there are many other things that you can try. Most pharmacies have an assortment of topicals that help with all sorts of different issues that might also provide you a bit of comfort throughout your day.

There is no one size fits all solution to many personal problems, but there are some solutions that can help many people with some of their problems. Is CBD right for you? It’s not our place to say.
