What is a CBD Tincture? Facts You Might Not Know

Whether you are new to the hemp world or have been enjoying it for years, you may not be aware of the details behind the scenes when crafting a fantastic CBD tincture. Some of the finest hemp companies in the world take painstaking steps in the process that produces perfectly balanced, high-quality hemp extracts. What exactly is a CBD tincture? Keep readingwe will explain what we know.

The Quality of the Hemp Makes the Difference

If you are already familiar with hemp extractsCBD products, you know that the quality of hemp makes a huge difference when it comes to how beneficial a CBD product will be. If the hemp is low-quality, the CBD will be low-quality as well. A step beyond the quality of the hemp is the way that the hemp is processed. If the hemp extract process is cheaplow-quality, the extract will be low grade as well.

The CBD Tincture

The difference between CBD tinctureCBD oil is in the way that they are processed. Where a CBD oil is produced using oil, such as olive oil or coconut oil, the CBD tincture is processed by using a solvent such as alcohol, ethanol, or supercritical carbon dioxide. The hemp is harvested, dried out, carboxylated, then placed into the solvent where its essential oil is extracted, saved in the remaining solution.

Why Carboxylation Is Necessary

In order for the CBD within a tincture to be beneficial, the hemp must be carboxylated first. Within the still alive plant, the CBD is not actually CBD yet. It is in an immature state known as CBDA. The concept can be a little confusing, but in order for CBDA to convert into CBD, it has to either naturally mature until it converts on its own, which is when the plant is very old, or dead. The flowers of the hemp plant are harvested, dried, ground into powder, then heated up in order to speed up the transformation processconvert the CBDA to CBD.

Extracting the Hemp Oil

Earlier in this article, we mentioned using a solvent to extract the oil from the hemp plant in order to create a tincture. The processes for using distilled alcoholethanol are pretty much the same. However, the supercritical carbon dioxide technique is a bit more extravagant. Where the ethanolalcohol can simply be used in a vat or chamber, the supercritical CO2 uses a few extra steps.

In the supercritical CO2 process there is a machine that uses three different chambers to extract the oil from the hemp. The chamber where the supercritical CO2 meets the hemp is the most crucial component. Supercritical CO2 is carbon dioxide that is in a state that is not a solid or a gas. It is in the supercritical liquid state that causes an almost immediate, clean extraction. Once the extraction has taken place, the supercritical solution is moved into a chamber where the carbon dioxide returns to its normal state, what’s left behind is pure CBD oil without any trace of leftover solvents.

The End Result

The end result of a high-quality hemp extraction process is a high-quality hemp product. When tinctures are created in a way that does not cause harm to the environment, or the person that uses them it is a win-win. If you are going to use CBD products, make sure that you are purchasing them from a company that cares about the quality of its productsthe wellness of its customers.
